This work was commissioned by the Toiyabe Chamber Music Society (formerly the Tahoe Chamber Music Society) in celebration of their new name.
Program Note
I chose these three instruments for their contrasting qualities of sound in order to evoke the unique natural beauty of Northern Nevada. In structuring the work, I imagined ranges of mountains separated by broad playas, with birds soaring overhead among interesting clouds, gusts of wind that rise quickly and subside slowly, streams swelling from snow melt, the seeps and springs that foster aspen groves up high on the slopes and in the ravines, ancient trees standing in stoic testimony to the passage of time.
